iWork is a great name.

It is very difficult to compete with Word, which becomes so popular that it is almost an industry standard.

Google Docs online service is a competitor too. I have moved all numbers to Google online spreadsheet. The major advantage of an online service is that your docs can be accessed anywhere.

While I still need MS Office around to view files that have complex formatting (not necessarily that complex, even), I've been doing all my work in Pages and all my job-tracking in Numbers since iWork 09 came out.

There are a few conveniences in Word that I miss—mostly the ability to automatically correct words with two CApital letters, and automatically correct obvious misspellings. And Pages has some minor rendering issues. But I appreciate the simplicity, and the find-all (cmd-opt-F) is extremely helpful.

I never really bonded with Excel. I've found Numbers is much more pleasant to work in.
